Professor  Edward Lungu

Professor of Mathematics.

(Served as head of Department, Dean of Science and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor).

Researcher in Biomathematics. Co-Initiator and Board Member of International Programs (NUFU, NOMA, DIMACS, MASAMU/SAMSA) and other capacity building programs in Mathematics.

Received many national and international awards for his dedication for capacity building and education support. In his plenary talk, Professor Lungu, will try to answer if there is a possible synergy between HIV and COVID-19?

Prof. Marcos Cherinda

Professor in Mathematics Education from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Studied Mathematics in Hochschule in Güstrow, Germany (1989);  in Monash University, Melbourne, Australia (1916) and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Wisconsin, United States of America (2002).

Was Mozambican National Representative for the International Commission on Mathematics Instruction (ICMI), Currently, he is serving as Senior Official of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). His talk will cover the Education Mathematics and Ethnomathematics.

Professora. Sarifa Fagilde

Professor in Mathematics Education, Researcher in Mathematical Education and Adviser for Education and Development. Deputy Vice – Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Universidade Rovuma. Will present a plenary talk on Gender and Mathematics: Status and Sociocultural challenges.

Prof. Osvaldo Loquiha

PhD in BioStatistics. His research focus on HIV and Reprodutive health. Loquiha is currently the Faculty of Sciences  Deputy Dean for Post Graduate Studies. Will give an overview of Statistical education in Mozambique: what lessons we learned and what’s ahead

Professor Sten Kaijser

Professor Emeritus at Uppsala University. Researcher in Mathematics with focus in Functional Analysis. Will present a plenary talk discussing Orthogonal polynomials, umbral calculus, and singular integrals.

Profa. Katherine Perry

Profa. Katherine Perry will discuss about the Rainbow Spanning Trees in Edge-Colored Complete Graphs.

Professor Arkadi Ponossov

Professor of applied mathematics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (since 1995). Was the main coordinator of the Mozambican-Norwegian research and educational project “Competence Building in Research, Teaching and Application of Mathematics and Informatics at the Eduardo Mondlane University”, his research interests are: Mathematical biology, stochastic, partial and time-delayed differential equations, functional analysis, hybrid dynamical systems. Professor Arkadi will give a plenary talk on Neural field models with and without microstructure.

Professor Oliver Olela

Professor Olivier Olela Otafudu. Research interest on General Topology and its applications in analysis, algebra and measure theory with a focus on asymmetric structures (quasi-metric spaces, quasi-uniform spaces and asymmetric normed spaces). Is involved in several regional research programmes. He has been awarded a C1-rating by the South African National Research Foundation from January 2022. In one of our plenary session Professor Olela will talk about the Isbell-convexities.

Professor Anotida Madzvamuse

Anotida Madzvamuse is an African-British Professor of Mathematics at the University of British Columbia in Canada (since October 2022) and Professor of Mathematical and Computational Biology at the University of Sussex (since September 2006). Madzvamuse is co-founder of the MASAMU program (in 2010) as well as being the Principal Organiser of the recently funded UK-Advanced Postgraduate Study Institute (UK-APASI) in Mathematical Sciences (2020-2022). His research program seeks to unravel mechanisms for 2- and 3-D cell migration through complex non-isotropic environments, pattern formation during growth development, the development of robust, efficient and stable numerical methods for bulk-surface PDEs as well as the development of open-source and commercial algorithms. Professor Madzvamuse will present to a plenary part of his research on Modelling, analysis and simulations of bulk-surface PDEs with applications to experimental sciences.
